Hi.
And welcome to my little corner of the Internet.
My name is Steven and I’ve been many things in my life, but mostly I’ve been a profligate wanderer. My travels began back in 1995 when I first visited Europe. In particular, I fell in love with London and quickly decided I would live there one day. Following university in 2006, I did just that. However, despite my intentions to stay, my life in London was not to last long. In the intervening years, I visited, or was resident in, dozens of countries including Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Switzerland, China, and Korea. Eventually, I landed in Japan, where I have remained for well over a decade now.
My professional career has been similarly varied, beginning in 2002 when I was hired as a web developer for American Mensa. Since then, I have held numerous positions in a variety of industries, from tech to education. I have been a data center engineer, systems manager, university lecturer, and an English teacher. In my current role, I lead teams of cyber security professionals — focusing on product security, learning & development, and customer success — at a large, multi-national corporation.
When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, metalworking, and pursuing various tech-related projects. Of particular interest to me, however, is the subject of leadership, especially as practiced by Sir Ernest Shackleton and espoused by Mike Ettore in his Trust-Based Leadership model.
